Character Name: Bondrewd the Novel
Character Canon: Made in Abyss
Canon Point: Post-Dawn of the Deep Soul
Age: Unknown. Physically, Bondrewd is likely somewhere in his 30s, but it's difficult to know his true age on account of his body hopping.
Crime: Severe child endangerment
Background: Ah, then there is no need to worry. For I am not making use of them as humans.
Personality:
There are many, many layers when it comes to a person like Bondrewd. On one hand, he has invented many items and methods for the betterment of Delvers and people alike. On the other hand, he commits himself entirely to his research which can be a torturous endeavor to his specimens and subjects in question. It'd be pretty easy to just write off someone like Bondrewd as some sort of arrogant mad scientist, but there's so much more than just a man who is focused on his scientific achievements. Really, the biggest mistake is trying to understand Bondrewd like a typical human being with a normal set of values and morals. At this point due to his experiences and the way he has even augmented himself, he is a bit alien in those ways. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, and get to know him step by step.
So it is true that Bondrewd's priority will always be his hunger for knowledge. This desire can be focused in many different ways, whether it is to experience a new sensation, to have a unique battle against someone, or for the purpose to further his experiments. At the end of it all, though, Bondrewd truly believes what he is doing will benefit mankind. The bigger picture means everything to him, and he has no qualms about committing brutal acts, sacrifices, and horrendous experiments to achieve these goals. To him, the ends do justify the means, because it is not simply him who benefits. It will be other Delvers and people on the surface who will stand to benefit from his work.
That isn't to say that he lacks comprehension of the smaller picture, or the steps he has taken to get there. For each person he has experimented on, Bondrewd remembers their name and aspirations. Even the children he has sacrificed to become Hollow or his cartridges are recalled distinctly with love, knowing who is who, and what they wanted to be when they grew up. It is almost a paradoxical nature of Bondrewd who readily sacrifices others and himself for his goals, yet he treats each child he has adopted with nothing but unconditional love and affection. Every enemy Bondrewd faces, he is friendly with and respects them. Not once does he let out a maniacal laugh or take joy in their suffering, yet at the same time he commits to his work anyway. Perhaps this is truly what makes Bondrewd so terrifying is his near alien nature to his own actions, how he loves and cherishes the children he takes in yet does not hesitate to use them for his work if it benefits him and mankind in the long run.
It is perhaps due to Bondrewd even augmenting himself that has made him into such an unusual being. He has, technically, sacrificed his own humanity in order to make a tool for himself. He has split his soul and consciousness in order to claim the bodies of his fellow researchers when he has need of them. As a result, this has shifted his perception of what is "morally" right but perfectly fine in his own perspective. Yet, his sense of purpose and his willpower are so absurd that he simply cannot be easily killed, even by the main protagonists. Even as they are in the story meant to be enemies, Bondrewd is still friendly with them, even complimenting their techniques in trying to apprehend and destroy him. It seems that Bondrewd hardly ever takes anything personally, and is not a man filled with hatred, anger, or frustration. His words are genuine when he praises people for their work, even if they're trying to kill him. However, if it does suit his goals, Bondrewd will opt to lie and manipulate as he has to, so long as it benefits, but to him it is never out of the enjoyment of hurting and lying.
It is, after all, for the good of mankind that everyone and everything is a tool at his disposal. Including himself.
Abilities: A lot of Bondrewd's abilities are in relation to how he uses the artifacts he's collected and adapted. It's worth nothing the primary abilities he has are his drive, willpower, and intellect. Due to Bondrewd's sense of self and sheer force of will, it has allowed him to accomplish many significant scientific feats, for better or for worse. In addition, as a White Whistle, he has become an incredible fighter with excellent agility, reaction timing, and strength. That aside, I'll go into some of the artifacts he will have and what his general existence looks like. If anything needs to be nerfed, please absolutely let me know.
• ZOAHOLIC: This relic is not going to be arriving with Bondrewd for the time being and that's honestly for the best. However, it's already had its affect on Bondrewd: by using the artifact, Bondrewd has infected many of his assistants known as the Umbra Hands, having placed a bit of his consciousness and soul in each one so he can use them as a hivemind as well as a way to transport himself from body to body as needed. While this has made him essentially immortal in his own world, without the artifact and the Umbra Hands, Bondrewd will currently have no bodies to "hop" into, as it were.
• GANGWAY: An artifact that is installed into his helmet. It shoots a laser-like projectile after he focuses on his target(s), and the projectile will act as though it has some sort of seeking aspect to it, chasing after its target until it strikes.
• SHAKER: This relic is on one of Bondrewd's gauntlets, and it will shoot what looks like a few thick black needles at someone. Should it impact them and they are organic, they will undergo effects not unlike the Curse of the Abyss. To be specific, the effects one would experience would be severe nausea, hallucinations, and/or vertigo.
• FAR CARESS: This technically is a containment unit that is attached to Bondrewd's coat that holds one of the creatures of the Abyss. Primarily, Bondrewd either uses it like a grappling hook, to tie people down, or to have it function like a net. It's incredibly flexible and elastic.
• CANOPY UNTO DAWN: A type of armor that Bondrewd has installed onto himself and his Umbra Hands. Mostly this functions to help ease the strain of Bondrewd's split consciousness and to easily tap into the Umbra Hands.
• SPARAGMOS: The most devastating of Bondrewd's artifacts. It is attached to the elbow of his gauntlet, and it fires a blade of energy that will obliterate whatever it comes in contact with. It is a narrow beam of energy, so precision is required, but no less dangerous.
• THIRD WORKS: Typically, these artifacts are usually a prosthetic limb. In this case, Bondrewd has augmented a limb into a lizard-like prehensile tail. After attaching it to his body, blood does flow there and it now functions as another appendage. It is armored like the rest of him, and the tip incredibly pointed.
• SIGHT: An unnamed relic that permits Bondrewd to see through his Umbra Hands as well as Nanachi but he cannot hear through any of them. This does not seem to work on anyone else, so this is pretty much useless unless Nanachi suddenly shows up in Expiation.
Inventory: Please see most of the artifacts above. All of them, save for Zoaholic, are attached to Bondrewd's armor. Zoaholic will not be arriving with him. His other possession includes his white whistle, which allows him to enhance his artifacts temporarily at the detriment of his own health.
